Biography
Best known for his performances on The Voice: Israel, Season 3, C.J. Glass is originally from Ithaca, New York. He graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Ithaca College in May 2005. During and after his college studies, C.J. had the unique opportunity of working with the production department of Jazz at Lincoln Center, bringing him into contact with such luminaries as Wynton Marsalis.
C.J. moved to New York City in 2005. While living in New York, C.J. worked for The American Federation of Musicians, earned a Master of Arts in Jazz Studies from Queens College, performed at The Blue Note and The Iridium jazz clubs with The Adam Ramsay - C.J. Glass Quintet, and was a featured performer with numerous Jewish music groups. One of his main formative experiences during this time was a period of weekly jam and tentet arrangement reading sessions at the house of the late, legendary vibraphonist, Teddy Charles.
While in New York City, C.J. studied with master guitarists James Chirillo, and Paul Bollenbach, master drummer Michael Carvin, master bassist Patrick Pfeiffer, and master trombonist John Mosca. He has also studied with the excellent Jan Nigro, Dr. Robert Keefe, Professor Steve Brown, Gene Bertoncini and the late Bucky Pizzarelli (guitar), Ryan Zawel (trombone) and Cookie Coogan (voice). Most recently, he has studied with Eliezer Aharoni of The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. He is, of course, indebted to all of his teachers, too numerous to list here.
In 2013, C.J. became an Israeli citizen and was awarded recognition as an "Exceptionally Excellent" musician by the Professional Board of the Arts - Field of Music. He has had the opportunity to teach music theory, guitar, bass guitar, trombone, and ensembles at the local conservatories of Holon, Ashkelon, Ra'anana, Ashdod, and at the Mizmor School: Givat Washington. He has also led master classes and concerts across Israel, The United States, and Canada. He has been honored to serve officially as Art Ambassador on behalf of The State of Israel.
Upon making Aliyah, C.J. held down the the guitar chair of Jazz Pipes, the official jazz orchestra of Modi'in, Israel for nine years. He also sang with the group from time to time.
Throughout his illustrious career, C.J. has had the privilege of performing with some of the world's top musicians, including Johnny Russo, Martin Pizzarelli, Lew Soloff, Walter White, Neal Miner, Pey Dalid, Michael Philip Mossman, Tal Ronen, Marion Cowings, Daniel Zamir, Avi Lebovich, Hagar Ben Ari, Dror Ben-Gur, Erez Bar Noy, Yakir Sasson (both of them!), Mike McGovern, Shmulik Budagov, Safam, Shlock Rock, Rabbi Shlomo and Eitan Katz, Frank London, Rabbi Greg Wall, Professor Joel Rubin, Simcha Leiner, Sam Glaser, Rabbi Yom Tov Glaser, Djug Django and many more...
Most recently, C.J. was featured as a trombone player in the band of Israeli vocal phenomenon, Lior Narkis.
Adam Ramsay and C.J. Glass co-wrote their single,"A Peace of Home," which may be purchased via iTunes.
Aside from music, C.J. co-authored the Jewish religious school textbook Torah Toons I with Joel Lurie Grishaver.
